| Additional Information: | Text mainly in Jawi with some in Arabic, some words in rubric, handwriting in basic book hand, some sentences difficult to read because the acidic ink has deteriorated, no decoration, double frames in black on 2v. An Eid al-fitr sermon calling to all Muslims to be faithful to religion and on the importance of prayer, almsgiving, fasting and the like, text incomplete. Wove papers were papers with smooth surfaces made from short fibres, from 1800 AD and after. They were generally more acidic than laid papers. Stated in the incipit that it was written in 1301 H/1884 AD. Papers are with watermark elephant and counter mark in Jawi “Guthrie and Company”. Guthrie & Co. was founded in Singapore in 1824 by Alexander Guthrie. Therefore, the papers were specially made by the relevant paper mill circa 1850 or after for the Guthrie Company. |
